Using this board is pretty straightforward, but...

Set Preferences

Customize how many messages you want to see in the Index and how they're arranged. The default is to view the previous six months, but you can choose any time period you'd like. The fewer you view (and one option is to see only new messages), the faster the page loads, so you can decide what works best for you.

You can also change from the default threaded arrangement to whatever suits you best. The other choices (chronological, etc.) are thoroughly described on the preferences page. Feel free to experiment, as you can always change it back.

Finally, you can also elect to store your name (as well as e-mail address and password, if you provide them) so you won't have to enter it each time you post.

NOTE: You'll need to allow your browser to accept a cookie, if it doesn't automatically, if you want your settings to remain in effect each time you visit the board.

User Profiles

Another optional feature. You can tell us something about yourself (anything you want) and even have your picture displayed if you provide a link (URL) to one that's already online somewhere.* You can view someone else's profile by clicking on his/her name in a post (if that person HAS a profile, of course) or by clicking on View User Profiles to see the whole list.

*If you'd like to display your picture but can't provide a URL, you can e-mail one to me, and I'll upload it and tell you what URL to use in your profile.

Post New Message

Yes, this is exactly what the name suggests, but you do have some options:

E-Mail Address

This is strictly optional. If you provide one, it will be displayed so others can contact you. Automated systems CANNOT "harvest" these addresses (i.e. for spam purposes), though.

Password

Also optional, but you need to provide one if you want to be able to delete your message later. (Note that if you do delete a message, the board will still display it, but without any text, so we'll still know that you posted but not what you said.

E-mail notification of responses

Receive copies of all responses to your message by e-mail. This way, of course, you'll know when people respond to you without having to go back to the board to check.

Preview Message

See exactly what your message will look like before you actually post it, giving you the opportunity to make changes before it's too late.

(Un)Subscribe

Sign up to receive copies of ALL Bogie Board posts by e-mail. You'll still have to visit the board to respond to these posts, but this allows you to read them, when they're posted, without visiting the board. Note that, if you do this, you should NOT use the option to be notified of responses to your posts, else you'll receive duplicate mailings. And if you decide to remove yourself from the mailing list, go back and unsubscribe.

Search Board

Exactly what it sounds like. I just want to point out that it's quite flexible, allowing you to specify a date range, if desired, and search by keyword or by name of poster.

Mark All Read

Click on this and all messages currently marked as new won't be anymore, without you having read them.

Message Archive

The main board displays messages up to roughly one year old. Visit the Message Archive to read and search older messages. The archive is read-only, so you won't be able to respond directly to these messages, but feel free to bring up something again on the main board.

Search Site

Search the entire site, including the Bogie Board.
